KDE4-l10n-* and Qt-4.4.1

Posted on Donnerstag 31 Juli 2008

The last 2 days I spend a lot time to hacking all the kde4-l10n-*
ports. I committed all ports to area51 today. A lot of languages
are missing with  KDE 4.1 but I think they will come with the
next releases. All kde4-l10n ports support 47 Languages
which isn’t bad. Also, today Qt 4.4.1 was released which is already
committed to area51. Max and I worked on the plist fixes.
I will report over the weekend how our test marthon goes and
how many are now really broken with qt 4.4.1 and dependencies.

So long …

KDE 4.1 is out

Posted on Dienstag 29 Juli 2008

So, KDE 4.1 is now officially out and we have already committed
it to area51. Currently, our plan is to wait for Qt 4.4.1 release.
We hope that it will fix some runtime problems that we have with
some Qt4 dependencies. We hope not to run into too many problems
with both updates, so that we can put KDE4 in the ports tree in
the middle of August. If you want to test KDE 4.1, checkout the
notes on our wiki page. Feedback of course welcome!

KDE4 Status Report

Posted on Freitag 25 Juli 2008

A few days ago, after the first Call for Testing we got more
or less good feedback. I wonder why so many people want
to have kde4 in the Ports tree but only about 10-15 Users are
willing to test. So, we get ready for the war then, when
we commit and it does not work 100% :( . But that is my personal
opinion. We have updated to  RC1+ with a lot of fixes. RC1+
works better and is faster than the previous version.

Here some other changes:

– FreeBSD 6.3 amd64/i386 is now 100% supported
– xine backend works now natively without gstreamer support
– Fix LASTEST link
– Fix qt4/cmake problems with mkspecs
– QT4 split (qt4-phonon* and codecs now optional)
– All known conflicts are solved (kdepim3/4 and kdewebdev/4)
– Koffcie 2.0 alpha 9 is now available in area51
– i18n-ports now 10% done

That’s all at the moment, few screenshots from KDE4 and KOffice can you see here :) .

[FreeBSD] Call for Testing KDE4

Posted on Donnerstag 17 Juli 2008

I’m happy to announce the first public Call for Testing.

The past weeks we focused on the complex and very time
consuming task to get the KDE4 ports into a much better
shape so we can now go on the next step: much wider public
testing.

You can see the HEADS UP here.

Happy Testing.

portscout new layout new url

Posted on Mittwoch 9 Juli 2008

A few months ago I’ve talked with ehaupt@ about the
portscout service. He’s given me the idea to give
portscout a new layout. I liked the idea, and a few
weeks later I started to work on it. Now I’m done and
I’ve put the new portscout online today. Portscout now
uses the standard FreeBSD layout and lives at a new
domain: http://portscout.org . The hardware and traffic
are sponsored by mainlink.de. Thanks!

Status Update for KDE4

Posted on Dienstag 8 Juli 2008

Its been a long time since a Status report for KDE4, so here’s a small
report. I’m no longer alone hacking on KDE4, after the Call for Helpers
from Sticky Bit
we got more help, we now have 2 active contributors:
Max Brazhnikov (who joined the FreeBSD KDE Team) and Kris Moore from PC-BSD.
Moreover, a lot of testers have stepped in. Our FAM problems have been solved by
Markus: most problems are now gone, thanks to his work. KDE4 now starts fast in 8
sec and is stable! PC-BSD announced the first cd’s with kde4, after talking with
Kris Moore, he passed along all postive feedback about KDE4 from the Community.

That’s all for the moment. If you want to see few screens you can find them here.
