OK, a few weeks ago some information about our work on KDE4 was unofficially
disclosed. Now, here is a status update. We now understand KDE4′s build
system better. Basically, KDE4 builds/works well but is not yet ready for
productive. The complete KDE4 4.0.1 (without i18n) distribution
is now in the test tree. We’re working on the co-existence with KDE3 to make
sure that we can install both KDE3 and KDE4 together on the same system. Today
I’ve committed a test patch from David Yeske that allows to use the USE_CMAKE
macro to clean up the Makefile. The first build tests with the USE_CMAKE macro
look fine. In the next days i’ll play more with the cmake marco to see how this
works and check to find some bugs. (I hope I won’t find any). And then it’s time
to rewrite the bsd.kde.mk to create the first USE_KDE* marcos and to start the
discussion about a good PREFIX solutions.

Yesterday I have received an approve from portmgr@ to allow Pietro Cerutti to join the Developers Community as a ports committer.
He’s done great work submitting new ports and lots of gcc4.2 fixes, so it’s time to reward him.

I’ll drive his first steps as ports committer and will be responsible for his possible errors and receive pointy hats for that:-)).

Seit einigen Stunden nun gibt es FreeBSD 7.0 RC3. Mit sehr viel Glueck wird das die letzte RC sein.

So, der Maintainer Day ist um und ich kann doch sagen, dass es sich dieses
Mal wirklich gelohnt hat.Es wurden einige Ports geupdatet und viele Fragen
beantwortet.Mein Dank geht an alle beteiligten – besonders auch an Aron und
Gerrit.

Eventuell wird es dieses Jahr noch einen zweiten Maintainer Day geben.
Je nachdem, wie es sich entwickelt.

Verbesserungsvorschlaege, Meinungen und Kritiken zu diesem Maintainer Day
sind herzlich willkommen.

Da sich nun einige Fragen was wir morgen beim Maintainer Day so machen
werden, wollte ich mal ein paar kleine Infos dazu raus geben. Wir nehmen
ein paar unmaintained Ports und werden sie zusammen aufpepen. Das heißt,
wir machen ein Update und einen Funktionstest. Wer dann Interesse hat,
der kann den Port als Maintainer uebernehmen. Zu diesem Zweck fertige ich
auch zusaetzlich noch eine kleine Liste mit unmaintained Ports an und werde
sie morgen im Channel bekannt geben.

Nun nach etliches verschieben wurde vor wenigen Minuten RC2 freigeben.

Hi,

Da es nun schon mehrere Anfragen gab ob ich auf dem CLT anzutreffen werde moechte ich nun kurz und buendig vermelden das ich dort sein werde von Freitag Abend bis Sonntag Vormittag. Wer also ein smalltalk halten moechte wird mich vermutlich die meiste Zeit am FreeBSD stand antreffen.
